Appendix surgery is a procedure that is performed to treat the appendicitis infection. It is usually performed as an emergency procedure.
What is an appendicitis infection?
Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed, leading to sudden and severe pain in the lower abdomen. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped pouch that extends from the lower right side of the large intestine. If stool passes through and blocks or infects the appendix, it can become inflamed. As the inflammation worsens, the appendix swells and may eventually burst.
